Greenlight Networks Launches Wi-Fi Router Recycling Program on Earth Day

Greenlight partners with Sunnking Sustainable Solutions to help Rochester fiber customers better manage e-waste, upgrade equipment with ease

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (APRIL 22, 2024) – Greenlight Networks, the leading fiber-to-the-home provider in New York State, announced today that it is celebrating Earth Day with the launch of its new Wi-Fi router recycling program in Rochester, aimed at helping its customers dispose of outdated electronic equipment responsibly. By partnering with Sunnking Sustainable Solutions, Greenlight’s Rochester office will now serve as a collection site for unwanted or obsolete routers. Current Greenlight customers, ready to upgrade, will have the option to turn in, or “swap”, older router models for safe recycling in exchange for a new router optimized for Greenlight’s fiber internet speeds.

Under the program, Greenlight will manage the recycling of the older model with Sunnking Sustainable Solutions and, in return, upgrade participating customers to Greenlight’s new Total Managed Wi-Fi service, making the upgrade process as seamless as possible.

“Every year millions of electronic devices are discarded as products become obsolete, which is bad for the environment and human health. Greenlight Networks is doing our part to ensure old routers are disposed of properly, and to make it as easy as possible to switch to Greenlight’s Total Managed Wi-Fi,” says Michele Sadwick, Chief Revenue Officer of Greenlight Networks. “Customers can schedule a time that’s convenient for them to drop old routers off to our office and pick up their new router pre-configured to maximize the Wi-Fi speeds available on Greenlight’s fast fiber internet.”

According to the World Health Organization, electronic waste, or e-waste, is currently the fastest-growing solid waste stream in the world. The United Nations Environment Program reports that nearly 80% of e-waste is found in a landfill or informally recycled, increasing the chances of environmental risks.

In exchange for participation in Greenlight’s new Wi-Fi router recycling program, the company is offering its customers the choice of a $50 Amazon gift card, a free month of fiber internet services, or $50 in MyBundle streaming credits. This reward will be available to participants through May 31st.

Starting as low as $5 per month, Greenlight’s Total Managed Wi-Fi service includes support from Greenlight Networks to ensure customers experience a fast, reliable, and consistent internet connection in every room of their house. Greenlight offers fiber internet speeds starting at 500Mb up to its new high-speed 8-Gig service.

The recycling program is initially launching in the Rochester market, with plans to expand the program to additional markets in the near future.
