Greece Olympia Music Theatre presents School of Rock!
“Rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme… You better get me to school on time!” School of Rock is based on the Jack Black hit movie of the same name. The story follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious preparatory school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out? Artistic direction by Jeff Andrews, best known in Rochester for his comedic performance, including Blackfriars’ Flight Before Christmas (writer/Mr. Wong) and his late-night sketch group Canary in a Coal Mine; choreography by the talented Abby Kate Heron, and musical direction by Karl-Erik Jansson and Aaron Staebell, also known in the community for their many musical talents. School of Rock, with its live kids’ rock band, of Greece Olympia students playing their instruments on stage, is a testimony to the transformative power of music.
