10:00am – Rain or Shine **
Braddock Bay Park
East Manitou Road, Greece, NY
Hike will leave from the Braddock Bay Pavillion
A field trip to Braddock Bay is guaranteed to be an experience not to be forgotten. Expert guides from Braddock Bay Raptor Research will lead the hikes, starting at the Braddock Bay Pavillion, with a walk over to the hawk watch platform for a brief talk on hawk migration. You will learn identification tips and how to spot the birds. The hike will continue out to the boardwalk to explore the marsh. You will learn about the banding station at the park and why hawk counts are so important, and how this scientific data is collected and what can be learned from it.
Directions to Braddock Bay Park
Take Route 390 North to the Lake Ontario State Parkway. Drive west (toward Hamlin Beach) on the Parkway to East Manitou Road. Turn right (toward Lake Ontario) on East Manitou Road. The entrance is about 1/4 mile ahead on your left.
Come Prepared
- Dress appropriately - layers are a must. Braddock Bay is on the shore of Lake Ontario, and is often a bit cooler in temperature than areas inland.
- Boots - particularly ones that can handle mud, especially in early spring and through the month of May.
- Binoculars - these are not necessary, but can enhance the experience, especially at the hawk watch.
Plan to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour to sign in.
