The Greece Chamber of Commerce has selected Paul R. Chatfield, P.E. as the Greece Business Person of the Year for 2011. The Greece Business Person of the Year award is given each year to an exceptional person or couple whose business activities demonstrate significant contributions to the community. Throughout his career, Paul has been an active volunteer in numerous organizations, all while maintaining a successful engineering business, serving as an adjunct professor at RIT and devoting time to both supporting new and existing businesses along the Dewey Avenue corridor and helping the youth of our community. He does his very best to help others in need and to making the Greece community a great place to live, raise a family and to do business.
The GirlieGoodwin Citizen of the Year Award is given annually to an exceptional person or persons whose volunteer activities demonstrate significant contributions to the community organizations they serve. This year’s recipient, Carol Wasilewski, is a staunch supporter of Special Olympics, devoting more 30 years as the Coordinator responsible for organizing and facilitating the local event. Carol has also given many hours of her time as a parent volunteer with the Greece Central School District, supporting music and stage productions with her expertise. Wendy Rockcastle nominated Carol and comments, “She is always the first to arrive and the last to leave. Those who know her wonder when she sleeps or eats!
This year, we are honoring a very special community member with the 2011 Greece Senior Citizen of the Year award. Donna Hutchinson, former principal at Long Ridge Elementary in Greece, is one of the co-founders of Two Doors Community Resource Center on Dewey Avenue. She served for many years as the President of the Board of Directors for Two Doors and devoted her time developing enhanced learning and summer programs for the students served as well as coordinating fundraising efforts, volunteers and recognition programs. “Donna is the heart and soul of the program,” noted her nominator Bill Selke.
Brook House Restaurant is being honored as the recipient of this year’s Spirit of the Chamber award, recognizing a local business for its significant volunteer and business contributions to our community. The entire staff at the Brook House is committed to supporting any and all community organizations with a need, and to help to make events as successful as they can be while making sure that they are beneficial to and for the Greece community and it residents.
Roger Battaglia will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement award for his invaluable contributions and leadership at St. Joseph’s Villa over the span of more than 40 years.

This year’s individual and business recipients will be recognized and honored at the Greece Chamber of Commerce Civic Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Marriott Airport Hotel in Greece. Doug Emblidge from 13WHAM News will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Tickets are on sale until April 21, 2010 at the cost of $40 per ticket.
